Metso has just disclosed a significant order for comminution equipment destined for De Grey’s Hemi gold project.

De Grey Mining Ltd, an Australian mining company, has awarded Metso contracts for a Superior™ MKIII 50-65 primary gyratory crusher and two 14 MW Premier™ ball mills. These will be installed at De Grey Mining’s Hemi Gold Project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The total order value exceeds €20 million, and it has been booked in the Minerals segment’s first-quarter 2024 orders received.

Glenn Jardine, Managing Director of De Grey Mining, explains, “Our goal with the Hemi Gold Project is to establish a Tier 1 gold project and ultimately develop one of the top five Australian gold mines in terms of production. The 10+ Mtpa process circuit will feature cutting-edge equipment and proven technologies to ensure responsible ore processing. By partnering with Metso to procure key components like the primary gyratory and ball mills, we are taking crucial steps towards achieving our objectives. Further decisions regarding additional process equipment will be made soon. Payments to Metso will be made based on milestones achieved during the manufacturing process and final commissioning, starting in March 2024.”

Kai Rönnberg, Vice President, Minerals, Asia Pacific at Metso, states, “Metso’s third-generation Superior™ MKIII primary gyratory crusher, known for its safe and efficient operation, will be pivotal in driving the entire processing circuit at Hemi Gold. Additionally, the two Premier™ ball mills will deliver optimized grinding performance and maximum availability for the concentrator. Equipped with failsafe Metso Polymer Hydrostatic Shoe Bearing (HSB) systems, both mills will significantly enhance reliability and reduce maintenance costs.”

Rönnberg adds, “We are eager to collaborate on this project and future endeavors with De Grey Mining. Metso is well-equipped to support operational plants, thanks to our extensive presence in Australia. Our state-of-the-art Karratha Service Centre in the Pilbara, set to become Metso’s largest Service Centre globally, will open this March. The Karratha Service Centre will offer cutting-edge technologies and sustainable aftermarket solutions to support our customers and the Hemi plant effectively.”
