EPCA has entered into an agreement to electrify a Caterpillar 988 wheel loader, marking what it says is a major milestone in the deployment of zero-emissions heavy mining equipment in Australia.
The company will design, engineer, and deliver a full-electric powertrain conversion for the E-988, drawing on its experience in electrifying large mining assets.
EMJC, a Western Australia-owned enterprise delivering earthmoving, plant hire, and maintenance services across the mining and civil sectors in Australia, will operate the E-988 under a long-term operational deployment at a large mining operation in Western Australia.
The project will, EPCA says, demonstrate the operational performance, reliability and cost profile of an electrified Caterpillar 988 in production service, supporting broader decarbonisation pathways for the mining sector.
Clayton Franklin, EPCA’s Chief Engineer, added: “This project is a significant step forward for EPCA and for the broader mining industry. Working with EMJC to deploy an electrified E-988 into active operations demonstrates that zero-emissions heavy equipment is no longer a future concept; it’s happening now. We’re proud to have our machine on site working and providing real solutions to the mines of Western Australia.”
