Caterpillar to further share expertise with African data centre industry
Caterpillar, a global leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives, has joined the Africa Data Centres Association (ADCA), a trade organisation encouraging the growth and awareness of data centres
In the announcement statement, Caterpillar made reference to how its power solutions help data centre facilities meet uptime commitments across the world. Further, it spotlighted its range of diesel and gas gensets with high-power densities integrated with automatic transfer switches (ATS) and switchgear which can be specifically customised for applications at data centres.
Alban Hohmann Schauly, data centre segment manager for Caterpillar’s electric power division, remarked, “The evolution of digital business services, rapidly accelerating mobile data consumption, and the expansion of the tech sector are driving growth for African data centres. We look forward to further sharing our expertise in versatile and environmentally responsible power solutions with the African data centre industry.”
Advanced power technologies that offer cost and fuel efficiencies also make up the Caterpillar’s portfolio. This includes the likes of Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) software solutions for monitoring, managing and monetising on-site energy assets; Cat combined heat and power systems and combined cooling, heating and power systems; and systems that can operate on hydrotreated vegetable oil, bio diesel and blended fuel products.
