Komatsu adds demolition equipment to simulator

The Komatsu simulator add-on module for demolition excavators replicates the Komatsu PC490HRD excavator and incorporates the advanced K100 boom change system. Developed by Oryx Simulations in collaboration with Komatsu UK, this module prioritizes realism and precision.

Kieran Wallace, Senior Design Engineer at Komatsu, stated, “Collaborating with Oryx Simulations to create the K100 HRD simulator allowed us to share our expertise from the outset, ensuring an exceptionally realistic experience. From functionality to scenario accuracy, the simulator mirrors the real machine impressively.”

The K100 Human Machine Interface (HMI) enables operators to perform all boom change procedures. The module includes three boom types in various configurations, alongside demolition-specific scenarios. An additional top screen provides an authentic experience, particularly when using the high-reach or extended high-reach setups.

With a faithful digital recreation of the machine environment, this simulator offers a safe, cost-effective training solution for demolition operators. Following Komatsu’s structured training approach, the module guides users through the boom change process using the original K100 HMI.

Debuting at the World Demolition Summit 2024 in Sweden, organized by Demolition and Recycling magazine, the simulator includes fully simulated camera feeds and sensor systems, enabling operators to practice boom changes safely. It features nine training scenarios with multiple tools and configurations to replicate real-life job site conditions in full motion, ensuring comprehensive and risk-free learning.
