Sisi Safety Wear to address PPE gender gap at Women in Mining Conference & Career Expo 2025

Sisi Safety Wear is proud to announce its participation in the Women in Mining Conference & Career Expo, taking place from 19-21 February 2025.As a long-standing advocate for women’s empowerment in the mining industry, Sisi is looking forward to engaging with attendees and sharing its vision for driving change and ensuring that female miners have access to properly fitted, high-quality Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Championing change in Women’s PPE

Women are a growing force in the mining industry, now making up 15% of the workforce. Yet, their safety needs are being drastically overlooked. Astonishingly, 85% of women miners are wearing shoes that don’t fit, and only a fraction – just 4% – have the protective gear they deserve. Sisi Safety Wear is committed to changing this unacceptable reality.

“The consequences of ill-fitting PPE for women are dire,” says Jamie-Lee Bishop from Sisi Safety Wear. “Unisex and men’s designs compromise safety by restricting movement, hindering escape in emergencies, and increasing the risk of injury. This can be dangerous as working without any protection at all.”

Sisi Safety Wear aims to level the playing field for women by providing PPE that ensures better fit, protection, and performance in high-risk environments. Their female-first range is meticulously crafted with features that prioritise safety, comfort and dignity:

  • Durability and comfort: Triple-stitching ensures lasting wear and comfort.
  • Smooth operation: YKK zippers provide reliable and easy use.
  • Enhanced visibility: Reflective tape enhances safety in low-light conditions.

Specific product ranges include:

  • Safety Jackets: Designed for a narrower shoulder with a wider waist and bust, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit.
  • Trousers and Boilersuits: Tailored to the female body shape, allowing for unrestricted movement and improved functionality, greatly enhancing productivity.
  • Fall Protection Systems: Featuring adjustable harnesses, elasticated chest webbing, and straps for a secure and comfortable fit on the female frame to prevent secondary injuries resulting from ill-fitting gear.
  • Safety Shoes and Boots: A range of 13 different styles of footwear developed with narrower heels and a lower instep, to provide proper support for female feet with a selection of sole shapes for individual preference.

Exciting product launches and innovations

At the event, Sisi Safety Wear will showcase key products, including a new range of safety footwear and flame-resistant garments. A highlight of the event will be the introduction of the SISI Fuse Safety Boot, boasting 20KVA electrical resistance. The new boot is on a PU/rubber sole and provides a lighter, ergonomic fit with superior comfort and durability. Designed specifically for women working in environments with potential electrical hazards but also well suited for all women looking for an attractive, comfortable and highly durable safety boot thanks to the rubber outsole.

Empowering women to advocate for better safety standards

Beyond product development and innovation, Sisi Safety Wear aims to empower women by encouraging them to speak up in their workplaces and request fit-for-purpose PPE. “Women in mining deserve safety gear that fits their bodies, upholds their dignity and meets their specific needs without compromise. Our goal is to educate, engage, and partner with industry leaders to drive meaningful change,” notes Bishop.
